Buying a new router. Anyone know if this is good enough?

As the title implies I am going to buy a router. I have searched around and settled down on this one for the most part. I am on a tight budget so the cheaper the better and this one seems to offer everything I need in a router. It's got more than fast enough WiFi for supporting the few wireless devices in my home of which are 4 phones and a FireTV Stick with my internet speeds being 155/170 it should be able to support more than fast enough speeds over WiFi for these devices to do stuff. And it has gigabit ethernet which will also support those speeds over cable to my PC and gaming consoles.

I've also used TP-Link before and currently have an 8-port ethernet switch by them that is working wonders and does it's job without issues so I kind of trust them on the quality side of things.

What I want to know is if anyone here has used a TP-Link router like this one or this one specifically or has any knowledge of this one being a not so good device? The reason I am getting a new router is because the one provided to me by my ISP is a complete tard when it comes to port forwarding and nothing I've done has been able to make it work right. DMZ works but I don't want to do that for security reasons so I figured I would just get my own router that won't give me such a hard time and would also save me from paying a monthly $5 leasing fee for their router at the same time.

So any insight and information regarding this router and it's quality would be much appreciated.

P.S.- the AC1200 version was listed on LifeWire for being one of the best routers under $50 and and while viewing it on amazon I clicked on the AC900 version to see what it's price it is currently $15 cheaper so if this router is good enough then I'll go with it since it'll only cost me $35.

You will see good and bad reviews for just about every router. Problem is wifi performance is much more affected by the house you put it in than the router. The reviews many times are reviews of the persons house rather than the router.

That router though puts out less power than many. At least they state it in their specs where most you have to dig through the fcc database to get it. The legal maximum is 30db, many routers put out between 26-29db. Although it makes less difference in real life every 3db of signal is double the power output.

You actually have a fairly fast internet connection. You need to be careful when selecting routers to be sure they have both gigabit lan and wan ports. The asus you mention only has 100mbit ports so it would limit your speed.

You will never get close to your internet speed on wifi. WiFi numbers a big marketing lies you only get a fraction of those speeds. To get over 100mbps you would need something that claims 1300 on just the 5g band. Then again it does little good to buy a fancy router and your end device does not support that faster speeds.

In general though almost every router with gig lan and wan ports should be able to run your internet at full speed. I do not stay on top of the very inexpensive models so this is where reviews come in handy. If you see people complaining that it will not pass data at high rates on ethernet connected devices that should be a concern. I do not know about that particular tplink router,
