i have a vibra 128 and its a piece of dragon dung.
keeps locking up things methinks
and sounds shite

i need a new affordable soundcard...
specifications are:
NOT digital
i use the soundcard plugged into a midi-hifi on my desk
average quality hifi
or occasionaly headset
play lots of music, enjoy the quality,
and sound for games EAX etc
i want something good, affordable, and is able to play two sound sources at once (e.g. 2 different programs)

suggestions peeps?

I know alot of people have been having trouble with sb live cards. Buy mine has worked fine for me. The problems that are common are a buzzing noise. If you have a new enough motherboard it will be fine though. I have the sb live value. I cant see spending 150 more to get the plat. card. The card is the same. The only difference are the drivers.

well i got me a sound blaster live for 99 auzzie dollars
it sounds pretty good, quantum step up from that piece of crap vibra 128
one question though... it has two audio "output" ports
one sounds normal, yet the other puts out a very rich deep cave-like echo on all sounds produced

it sounds very cool, but what if i dont want it?
heard of this problem?
p.s. the card has 5 ports ( and the joystick port)
the port closest to the joystic port is coloured Black and it porduces the echo sound
the next one along is coloured green and produces the normal sound.
Is this a feature or a bug?

thanx in advance

here is the card layout looking at it from the back left to
right
The joystick is the yellow 1 for me then the
black one to the right is line out this one is for if you have 2 sets of speakers. This is for the rear speakers. That is what that one is made for.
Then the next one over is green and is the 1 for the front speakers w/or without the rear speakers. It is enabled by default
Then i have a red one which is for the mic.
Then there is a baby blue one which is line in.
Then there is a digital output which is yellow for me.

I dont get any noise out of the line out 2 (the one closest to the joystick port) With it enabled in software i can use this port for the rear speakers and have the front ones in the one next to it. Even with my speakers in the line out 2 it doesnt do that it sounds normal. I would try downloading the latest drives.

I just updated the drivers for my sb live tonight they seem to work good. A bios update may be needed if you dont want to use ez bios to get your new hd to work. Ez bios is a pain when it comes time to be reloaded tho. I would get the latest bios. What motherboard do you have??
