buying a second hand cpu advice?

Hi, I've got an opportunity to buy a second hand i5 2500k and motherboard cheaply from someone I know. I use my pc for casual gaming and it would be an upgrade from my old i3 530, Do you think that this is a good investment or should I be a bit more careful and just buy a brand new Haswell equivalent?

If it is from someone you know and trust, and the price is decent, go for it. I get hardware like that all the time.
