Hi!
I have a 60hz monitor and want to add a 144hz monitor.

This is what i have in my pc currently:

-Cooler Master B500 500W PSU
-Intel Core i7-4790
-ASUS B85M-G, Socket-1150
-HyperX Fury DDR3 1600MHz 8GB
-GeForce GTX 960 2GB
-1TB SSHD
-250 Samsung SSD

I use my setup for mostly gaming. What would make most sense to upgrade alongside getting a second monitor? Suggestions to what i should upgrade to would be very much appreciated.

Depending on the titles you play, driving 144Hz is probably out of the question on a 960, without dramatically reducing settings.

A step up to a 1070 or 1070TI would be where I'd look.

The PSU may need to be replaced alongside the GPU though, I don't believe the B500 is particularly good quality.

.... I assume you don't want to game across both monitors, with differing refresh rates?

No, I'm not going to game across both monitors.

So if I upgrade GPU would I have to buy a new PSU?

And should I add the GPU alongside my existing one or replace it?

I do not play very heavy titles. Overwatch, Hearthstone and Fortnite mostly.

What kind of frame rate do you see currently? If you can push >100fps now, you'll get by with the 960. I'd be surprised if its capable of those kind of numbers though.

Replace GPU, not in tandem.

You probably should replace the PSU alongside a GPU upgrade, yes

I typically get around 90fps. Rarely above 100!

So if I go for a 1080ti, what would be a suitable psu?

1080TI??? That's one heck of a step up, and totally overkill for a 1080p 144Hz on Fortnite/Overwatch etc.

A 1070 would probably be the best fit for those titles.

You certainly *can* pick up a 1080TI, but it really is a waste for those types of titles.

As for PSU, where are you located?

Well that was a typo... I meant 1070TI.

I'm located in Norway.

1070TI would be a very solid card for 144Hz 1080p. Arguably overkill for the titles you play, but should last you a very long time.

A quality 550W unit would suffice, but in Norway, it looks like 550-650W units of good quality are priced very, very similarly.
Around $120 USD / 1,000kr should really be what you're budgeting for in Norway for a quality PSU, from what I can find

Corsair RM650x @ 900kr

Corsair TX650M @ 996kr

EVGA 650GQ @ 949kr

EVGA 650G3 @ 999 kr

Cant go wrong with any of those.
My preference would be for the G3 from EVGA.
SuperFlower unit based on the Leadex II Gold platform. 10 year warranty (vs 7 on the other 3) and fully modular.

Sounds nice! Thanks a lot!
