is there a risk buying a second hand processor which as been used for overclocking?(one of my friends is going to buy a 2500k and he was said that it was used for overclocking)

Solution
Obviously you're going to want to check it out, make sure it works etc when buying second hand. Overclocking is actually very safe and easy to do these days, they come loaded with auto-shutdown if they reach high temps and/or problems. Although overclocking does technically shorten the life of your chip.. It's not by much. I wouldn't have a problem with buying a used chip as long as it's working and doesn't appear to be damaged. When you install the chip into your new motherboard, overclocks are reverted to stock (as this runs off the motherboard bios, not the cpu). So you can start fresh.

Since it's a K processor and you may want to OC in the future.. If not already, i recommend buying a aftermarket cpu cooler...
I personally don't buy used...but yes there are always potential issues when buying anything used, much less something that has been overclocked. If it has been overclocked it will have a decreased life. Which overall does not matter because CPUs can last a long time regardless..but still. What is the price difference between the used or new 2500k? Is that price difference worth it to your friend?

The 212 EVO is a great budget cooler which does an amazing job! only 35$.

Hey,

this model CPU was released in the beginning on 2011 and has been discontinued for over a year now so it must be between 1.5 and 3.5 years old roughly. Depending on what cooling has been used and the way it was or was not tortured could affect its longevity.

So is it worth buying it will depend on the price. If it's really cheap I guess your friend can buy it and hope it all works well and even if it doesn't he wouldn't have lost that much money. He might never run into any problems but you never know. On the other hand if the asking price is high, then he should consider saving a bit more $$ and buying a new one instead. Thant's what I think anyway.
