So when I buy an additional router, do I just connect it with an Ethernet cable and is it ready to go?
Does buying an additional router improve the connection, because I don't get a very good connection upstairs, so will buying another router and putting it upstairs help solve the issue?

Not quite that simple, but yes if you connect the two LAN port to LAN port and configure the new router as a wireless AP it will do wonders for your connection.

On the new router you need to turn off DHCP, give it a static address that is in the network range but outside of the main router DHCP range, select a different radio channel (choosing from 1, 6, and 11 -- the non-overlapping channels), use the same SSID and passkey.

And the static address needs to also be set in your primary router static table, which also requires entering the device MAC address for the new router.

For example, if your main router gateway address is 192.168.x.1, make the new AP 192.168.x.2 and set the main router DHCP range to 192.168.x.3 to .128 -- this is actually all quite easy, although it might not sound like it. 😀

Usually yes, depends on your ISP (if you need usename password to get on the internet, usually ADSL) Also depends on router brand. Asus usually detects everything but sometime ask to do some settings.

Extending your wireless signal : yes. But the more bridge/repeater you have, the more you can get communication problems. Max 3 repeaters on wireless network is recommended.

Is this wired or wireless, If wireless, is the signal good ?
What are you doing playing games, watching movies ?
