So I purchased a new Samgsung 980 SSD for my system it's rated read speed is 3500 Megabytes per sec. My existing ssd has a read speed of 2400 MBs. which one should shoulder the OS? is the speed noticably different in use?

either way won't matter a ton. You can install games to whatever drive you want.

If you redirect your docs to D drive, you might want that data on the new drive since in theory it will last longer than the older drive?

Or I would want the 980 on the C drive, to make the boot drive the fastest.

Doubt it will matter a dimes difference either way in the real world.

If you don't need the space you could mirror it or use storage spaces, or use file history.
