Buying bigger M2 SSD - only one M2 slot on mobo

Ideally would like to clone the 128Gb I've got onto the new 512Gb one - to avoid having to reinstall windows.

BUT there is only one M2 slot on the mobo. Am I right I'd need to but a M2/SATA caddy so that I can plug the new SSD (temporrarily) into SATA?

Nope. You need PCIE M.2 adapter.

You can purchase a M.2 external enclosure, or you are purchase the above PCIe M.2 adapter. Either one can be used to clone the M2. SSD. However, the PCIe M.2 adapter allows you easily use the old 128GB M.2 SSD inside your PC.

If you want to clone the M.2 SSD that is in a laptop, then you will have to buy a M.2 external enclosure.

It supports only sata M.2 drives and doesn't support PCIE M.2 drives.
What's the model name of your 128GB M.2 ?
