Buying copy of Windows 8 for a new pc, microsoft website very confusing.

Hello, like the title says I am buying a new copy of Win8 for my Pc, and I've looked around the internet for the best deal. I'm a student at university, so I thought I could get it cheaper (and I still think I can)...but the website is very confusing.

'Upgrade' seems to imply I must be running an edition of Windows, but I'm just buying the new HDD. I'm also unsure if this is the 32 or 64 bit version (is there even a 32 bit windows 8?). I'm just completely confused about what to buy, I don't want to buy a gimped edition made only for schoolwork or something, but I can't really afford to buy from Amazon or anything.

(If anyone can give solutions or cheap suggestions? Like £50 copies of Win7 or 8, that'd be fantastic.)
