Buying Docking Station

Hi guys, tomorrow I will buy a docking station. I heard that the docking will reformat the hard drive by itself. I am bit worried about this. HDD experts here, please explain this to me. Sounds like a crappy dock. I've never had that issue with other docks.

No direct experience with that one, but it should be fine.
Try it on a drive with non-critical data first.

I think this is about MBR and GPT partition problem. Docking station that can't support MBR will reformat the drive into gpt and vice versa.

While I've had no personal experience with this Orico dock we have used a number of other Orico USB external enclosures over the past few years and have been quite satisfied with them.

What I'm a bit leery about re this particular Orico dock is the rather high negative reviews - see...

We don't use these "docking stations" any more, primarily because of their bulk. But many users (like yourself) prefer this type of device.

If you go this route consider a couple of things. We find it's considerably more convenient that the power switch be mounted on the front or top of the device rather than on the back (which is the usual location). Ditto for the LED which is the power-on signal (we prefer a bright light). These things may not be important to you but I thought I'd mention them.

Thank your for your reply here, I think I will consider the 3.5 inch enclosure. I think you are are right because of the bulk, there are too many products like this and many cheap and low quality are there. Well, let's see what the computer store got for me. Thanks.

Whatever you finally select give consideration to a USB external device that will accommodate BOTH 2.5" & 3.5" drives. Don't limit yourself to only one size or the other.
