Buying gold on eBay - opinions wanted.

Since coming back to Europa a month or so ago I have found the housing
situation to be greatly improved, thanks to the new house ownership rules. I
got a sandstone up in a very sweet spot, and enjoyed customising it. Now,
thanks to the small tower next door falling this morning, I grabbed the spot
by putting up a 3-story 10x14 plot. I now really want to build the entire
house, just get it done and then go back to building up my chars. I only
have 60000 in gold at the moment, which brings me to the subject of my post.
I was going to buy 1 million in gold on eBay to customise my plot. I have
never done this before in the almost 3 years I have been playing UO, and to
be honest I don't want to, and will never do so again - but I *really* want
to build my house... So, should I do it? Is it legal? Do EA/OSI consistently
turn a blind eye to this? Is it regarded as "cheating" by the community? Any
opinions welcome, but hopefully I'll talk myself out of doing it... 🙂

It's perfectly legal and EA/OSI has no problems with it at all. Some
people in the community will look down on you for doing it but if you
don't tell the guys you play with then who's gonna know? :)

It's legal - some people will turn their noses up at you, some won't. My
feeling is, taking my 'main' character (mage/warrior) off monster hunting,
it will probably take me about 1-2 months to raise a million, given the
amount of time I have available to play, and my skill level. Somewhere,
there's a calculation that would turn that into money. (feel free to come up
with one) including the consideration that I will have paid for those two
months worth of subscription anyway. If I choose to enhance my play
experience by buying something extra for my character, and I can afford it,
that's up to me. I personally don't see a huge difference between buying an
extended character, buying the 7th anniversary edition for the 'gift' +
extra slot, and buying a million gold on eBay. Two of those come straight
from EA. EA also endorse 3rd party tools, which you have to pay for. Again,
not much of a difference.

Others will differ. That's their right. But you're not breaking any
laws/agreements, and if you're comfortable with it and can afford it, go
ahead.

I think EA knows so fully well what happened to the game after they allowed
Ebay etc, and
they (EA) also make good use of this whole situation, by making money for
every little update/ char creation etc.
So: its up to you, but if you really want this, and will be able to enjoy
the game more with the money
I dont see any reason why you shouldn't buy the gold.:)

Reg/Ravenstone/Earendil,

Thanks for your opinions and advice, I really appreciate it. After much
thought, I decided on my course of action, and my Paladin now has lots of
gold to play with... 🙂

Thanks again,

Shaun.
