a nice i5-6600k would be a good way to get back to modern :) this would be a quick and not overly expensive upgrade to the cpu. use your current cooler on it since it does not come with one.

Just looked in my case and it seems that i can be able to cut out some of the plastic/metal for the hard drives slots to make it fit if not ill have to switch to the AMP non extreme

how much do you have to spend for the upgrade? the cpu you have is rather old and could use an upgrade as well. the card will work fine with what you have but you're asking what else can be upgraded as well :)

middle ground would be a haswell i5 such as the 4690k on a new mobo. this allows you to use the same ram you have now. or you can totally up to date and get a skylake i5 with a new mobo and ddr4 ram.

budget wise i have some $$$ saved up so ill be willing to upgrade mobo/ram/cpu or anything that kind of bring my pc up to date so id say 1200 would be my max budget

throw in the 1070 and you're still below $1000 and won't have to worry about upgrading anything for a long while. the psu is top quality and would be a nice replacement for the low quality corsair you have. pick and chose but this is my thoughts on a long term upgrade for your system :)
