[SOLVED] buying new cpu

ok so i'm planning to get a ryzen 5 2600. but i realized that intel's and amd's new gen cpu are about to come out. my question is, should i just buy the ryzen 5 2600 or wait and save more for newer generation cpus?will it be worth it to buy ryzen 5 2600 now?

The new AMD CPU are not coming out until atleast late 2020 but with the new Intel CPU they already started rolling them out in my part but what are your current specs you have right now?

my current spec is actually very old
i'm still using core 2 quad q9400
6gb ram
amd radeon hd

and this is the spec that i'm planning to build now

gtx 1060

I would not go with the new CPU with 1060 not unless you save up abit more and get the new GPU but do think ryzen 5 2600 will be good idea with the gpu your planning getting now 1060

I would wait for the 3300x launch. it has fewer cores, but will be quicker in some aspects because of the distance between transistors (7nm architecture vs 12nm). Plus, the 3300x cost about $30 less an is better in gaming when looking at benchmarks (https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Ryzen-5-2600X-vs-AMD-Ryzen-3-3300X/3956vs4076). Both are really solid CPUs for their price though

yeah, i've been thinking about buying that cpu too, but what about the new intel comet lake?is it gonna be worth it? i'm waiting for the i5 10400f.

I'd not go with the 9400f, 9600k series, nor the 3100/3300x if it can be avoided. Yes they perform well today, but tomorrow is a different story.

Cpus, platforms are almost always never upgraded, planned obselesence. Gpus are far more frequently updated. So it's better to get a mobo/cpu that's going to last a good while and swap gpus as needed, than get a good gpu and have to upgrade everything else in a few years.

The 3600 is the best bang for the buck cpu atm, the cost of the motherboard/cooler to get the performance boost with OC on the Intel ruins it.

guess i'll save more for the 3600 then, hope the price will drop when intel released their comet lake cpus, or will it drop?

Well right now you are facing covid prices. Laws of supply and demand. The motherboard I'm trying to get normally costs $250 but you can only get it on eBay for $500-$700 or I've seen it from 3rd party sellers on Amazon for as much as $981.

So you have time. Normally the 3600 is closer to $170-$180, but ppl are asking $200+

In my opinion, no comet lake isn't worth it. Intel is overpriced and trust me, you will get more with AMD for the same price.

I would have to disagree a little... The 3600 is an amazing cpu with 6 cores and 12 threads, but it has a 14nm architecture and is seemingly slower in some aspects in comparison to lower-end chips like the 3300x

if i want to get a cpu now, should i go with 2600 or 3500(x)?
