corsair HX850W PSU
AMD FX8350
asus m5a99fx pro r2.0 mobo
16gb dual channel hyper x ram
Sapphire radeon HD7950

Been meaning to buy either/or. Money isn't really an issue, I'm just concerned about bottlenecking. My ram is at 1066mhz, CPU is at 4.52 GHz.

im going to assume you mean your cpu is 4.5 ghz not mhz.
what are you looking at buying. im assuming you mean gpu? by "970 or 980" if money isn't an issue then get a 980, look at some fps frame comparison just google "980 fps comparison" and look up some sites

I'm going to assume that my current RAM, and ram speed, isn't going to be an issue if I purchase a gtx980? I know ram ram bottlenecking GPU's is a rare occurance, but I just don't want to have to find out AFTER I but the thing

lol i'd have to completely rebuild then, seeing as how I'd have to get a new motherboard to support this i5

put it this way. no matter what system you build you'll always be bottlenecked by something. you can't help it. however these days you can always over clock. if you ram is bottlenecking you, simply over clock the ram. just make sure it doesn't heat up to much. and if you haven't already i would recommend liquid cooling on your cpu
