Buying new harddrives

Hey, if I wanted to get two new 120 GB 7200 RPM SATA harddrives to put in a RAID config, which do you guys recommend?

You'll get all sorts of answers. Some think Maxtor is better, others think WD is better, and others think the Barracuda's are better. I personally have 2 40GB Maxtors in a raid 0, 1 120GB Maxtor, and a 250GB WD in this tank. Like em all. They'll all perform well, imo go for the cheaper, esp if u can find a good deal (<A HREF="http://www.ableshopper.com" target="_new">http://www.ableshopper.com</A>) and (<A HREF="http://www.compusa.com" target="_new">http://www.compusa.com</A>)

the one you'll find on sale (rebate..) will do the job. I'm an IMB guy, but Seagate is my own prefference these days, they are cheaper, quieter, and seams to be more reliable than the others, I try to stay away from squealing WDs even I have 180G one in an external case and Maxtors (seams to be clamzy for me).

yeah, that's what I figured. I've looked at benchmarks and they all seem to rate similarly. Some are better in certain tests but fall short in others. Thanks for the second opinions everyone!

I'd look for those with the 3 year warranty. I hear many now only offer 1 year. I've had too many fail after like 26 months or similar.

I'm looking for an external hard drive, are the Iomega or LaCie 80 GB 7200 drives any good? They're about the same cost or even cheaper (~$115) as buying a Maxtor/Seagate/Hitachi internal and setting it up myself in an enclosure.

I haven't found any comprehensive reviews of either, though I've found glowing reviews on a few sellers sites.
