Hello All!

I recently upgraded a lot on my computer, I went from Eight gigs of ram to sixteen. A 400 Watt Power supply to 850, and from a ge force 750 to a geforce 960. I bought a full size case, yet I still have my micro atx motherboard. It seems like I'm wasting a lot of space and it doesn't have enough space on it for all of my case's fans.
I was curious, on a few things:

1.Will I have to buy a new copy of operating software (Windows 8 ect) if I already have it on my hard drive?

2.Will my current processor fit with my new motherboard? My current processor is a AMD A10-5800K 3.80GHz Dual-Core and the motherboard I am debating buying is ASUS 970 Pro Gaming/Aura ATX DDR3 AM3 Motherboard.

3. How much will this transition affect my computers performance? I really only use my computer for facebook, youtube, and world of warcraft. I really want to run World of warcraft on ULTRA and after upgrading my ram, and graphics card I could really only get to high. I want it to be the best it can.

4.Lastly, Is there anything specific I should know about new motherboard installation?

Thank you all very much!

Solution
1. If you bought windows 8 yourself and have the licence key with it, and it`s is on a dvd disk to install no you will not have to buy another windows 8 OS install and setup disk.

If the system came pre built and windows 8 was already installed on the Original HD installed in the system, and you do not have a DVD disk provided and a windows 8 licence key.

The hard drive will contain a factory Install image of windows 8 on a hidden partition of the drive.
That you will need to backup that partition or copy it to another drive if you intend to use it for setup with a new motherboard.
As you will need to do a fresh install of windows 8 to set it`s self up with the new motherboard.

If you cannot find the windows 8 licence key.
You can...
You should not need a new windows copy, even if you bouht it OEM, but if you did you'll need to make a phone call (they should give you another code if you explain your situation). Any FM2 mobo will work, but make sure to get one with an A85X chipset for overclockability. Hower, if you're changing your motherboard, I'd also recomend getting a new CPU, possibly Intel skylake. Motherboards usualy wont be affecting FPS. As for instalation, pay close attention to how your CPU is keyed to the mobo, putting it in wrong could result in breaking it. Same goes for RAM. Other than that, you'll have to take everthing out of the cae, so it'll be just like building from scratch. Most people install the CPU, sometimes cooler (depends on which one), and RAM on th mobo before putting it into the case, and then put eveything else in.
I bet you cant get ultra because your CPU isnt good enough. While you play, run task manager, and if it ever reads 100% for CPU usage (or 100% on some of the threads/ cores) your CPU is a botleneck.

You can use a bit of software that will recover the valid licence key that was first entered when windows 8 was installed and setup for the first time on the system.

Download and install this on your system if it is currently running windows 8, then run it.

Then write down the windows 8 licence key and keep it safe Chaboyjustice .

2. No the current cpu you have A10-5800K is for a Fm2 or Fm2+ cpu socket on a motherboard.
An Amd 970 pro with a AM3 cpu socket will not except the current FM 2 based cpu you have because the pin count on the cpu is different Chaboyjustice, you will have to buy a FX based cpu instead to run with the new motherboard be it a Quad, Hex, or Octa core cpu.

Link to FX based Cpu`s from quad to Octa bellow.
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/pc-components/processors/amd/amd-socket-am3-

When looking at a 970 AM3 motherboard. always take note of how many watts it can provide from the motherboard to the cpu socket on the motherboard.

Higher end AMD FX cpus require more wattage such as 220w for the 9590 line of cpus.

8 core FX 8350 require up to 125w from the cpu socket.
And quad cores such as a FX 4350 require 95w from the cpu socket.

3. it should be better and faster.

4. For every new motherboard you install or upgrade to Chaboyjustice you will have to wipe the existing windows os installed on the selected boot drive you choose to load windows os from.

You cannot use the old windows Os installation because it was setup and configured for the old motherboard and controler chip set it used. And the new motherboard will have a different controller chip set on it when moving to the 970 based motherboard Chaboyjustice .
