Buying new parts, what to do?

Hey guys currently I'm trying to rebuild my computer even if it means replacing most things in the process, what parts would you guys recommend within my budget? I'll draw my budget at $550 and will need your help in deciding how to use the $550. It could be more or less but preferably around that general area of pricing. This computer will be strictly for gaming.

My current existing parts are....

Motherboard - Dell Inc. 0T568R
Memory - Hyundai Electronics 4x2gb RAM sticks
Drive - 512gb Crucial M4 + 1tb Seagate HDD(Plan to keep the same)
CPU - Intel i7 860 2.80ghz
GPU - Dual-X R9 Sapphire 270x 256bit 4gb(Plan to keep the same)
PSU - 550w TS FSX(Plan to keep the same)
Cooler - Stock cooler
Case - Stock dell case

Any suggestions?

So in short, specifically the motherboard and cpu will be priority changes. Not everything needs to be changed, I only expect 2 to 3 parts changed within that price range, just don't know which parts to change it with.

You're at a deadend bro, your PC as it is atm is quite decent for gaming and you won't find a superior one for 550$. though if you prefer you could either change into i5-4690k+ ASRock Z97 PRO4 or Extreme4 + Hyper 212 EVO or just get some nicely OCed GTX 970, preferably go for less mainsteam brands which offer better value for $ such as palit,zotac,powercolor.

You ain't have enough $ for fully new build which could handle few years infront.

You could get a 4690K and an ASRock Fatality for around $300. This would leave you about $250, which is enough for a Tri-X 290. If you don't want the GPU, your could upgrade the motherboard or add in a cooler.

Seriously? $8 over budget...

He doesn't need a new cooler unless he is going overclock, which isn't needed for the time being. Should he want to overclock, the GPU can be dropped for a cooler.

if he doesnt plan to OC,according to you.. why he needs K series CPU and Z97 motherboard then? he could go with just i5-4460 or i5-4690 + some basic H81/H87/H97 board while saving $ and hassle.

The price difference is very small right now, small enough for the 4690K to be the best option. A good H97 motherboard is going to cost ~$100, so the Fatality is also the best option. Overall, he would be spending ~$25 more than he would by buying a 4460 and a good H97 board.

Secondly, overclocking could come in handy sometime in the future. Not to mention overclocking can help tremendously in games like Arma 3.

650$? hah then just get some i5-4690K + some basic ASRock Z97 (Pro 4 or Anniversary) + Zotac GTX 970 ,should run any games on ultra.

Hm... I think I may keep my original graphics card, so far it seems to be doing a pretty decent job. Mostly the concern is getting the best motherboard/cpu/and anything else needed to support/compliment it.

Should I consider i7 stuff for future purposes? The i5 still seems pretty good but kinda debating on i7 since I don't think I plan to attempt on another PC for the next 3 years.

The i5 should easily last you three years. Though if you live close to a Micro Center, you can get the 4790K for $250 right now.

Oh one last thing if you don't mind me asking, do you think Thanksgiving/Black Friday/Cyber Monday/Christmas will have sales on these items? Or would it not matter on when I buy them? I know Thanksgiving generally has like SSD sales but that's about all the knowledge I have on computer sales.

On Black Friday and the days leading up to it, you can usually find some good deals on most any component. The 4690K is currently on-sale for $209 which is $30 off it's normal price.

For the motherboard, the specific board I posted is unlikely to drop any lower, but it's possible.

If there are any other components you need, now would be a good time to buy, though be careful as not every "deal" is actually a good deal.
