Buying new should i go with dual or quad core

I am shopping for a new computer (Touch smart). I dont really know enough about computers to decide on dual core or quad core. But I do enjoy many games online as well as on disc.Also not sure about Graphics. Amd or NVidia. Could someone help me
I feel when i am on the Hp page picking the upgrades their view is a little bias

I would say at this time of where we are technology and software wise, for the future past today, definitely go with a quad core CPU.
