Hey, Im looking for a 8gb ram stick and Im not sure what brand to get, I guess first off Ill post my specs.
Intel(R) Core2
Quad QPU Q9400 @ 2.66ghz
3gb ram
32bit windows 7
With 4 ram slots in my computer.

Instead of mixing ram I have decided to go with buying a new set and am looking to have 8 gigs and in the future buying another 8 to add to it for photo/video editing.

After a little research I came to the conclusion that getting 2 x 4 gig now and buy the same kit again when it becomes necessary with my usage
what speed of ram could we add to this PC?The person who we bought it from has outlined a few models the local shop carries but asking further questions, thing because a little unclear.

He mentioned 1333 and 1600...what potential does my system can handle..even better than stated above?

This will be mainly used for Counter Strike: Gobel Offensive and for steaming live/while playing...with the current set up I, am unable to achieve this successfully? I used to get 100-130 frames per seconds when I had a 4gb ram stick in, now its out I get alittle less, when streaming I get 30 frames less which with 70 down two 40 its really hard to play.

Thankyou for answering my question!

Solution
RAM speeds don't really affect gaming/streaming performance in any way. It's mainly your GPU (more fps in gammes) and your CPU (which let's you stream while gaming). It's just about having enough GB.
First off you'll need to upgrade your Windows to a 64bit version anyway in order to use more than 4gb RAM.
And yes, you're right it's always better to run RAM in dual channel (two sticks) so 2x4gb will do fine.
And you can still upgrade since you got 4 slots with that combination.

I'd just get the cheapest 2x4gb 1600Mhz sticks you can find or pick a brand you prefer there are really no noticable differences. :)

with a 32-bit O/S your system will not see more than 4GB. Either upgrade your O/S to 64 bit, or save your money. Otherwise I'll defer to the guys who've already answered.

I repeat - your 32-bit Windows 7 system WILL NOT address more than 4GB of system RAM. You need a 64-bit O/S to address > 4GB.

Your motherboard may not support 8 gigs in 2x4 config. What model is it?
Also, you are fooling yourself. 3 gigs is suffiecient for CS:GO. Your CPU can not handle the streaming.
