Hi guys ,

I am looking at some point to overclock a new PC I am building, but not immediately. Therefore I want to make sure that I am buying the right components.

I will be getting the AS Z97 Extreme 4 MOBO which is capable of overclocking. I will make sure to allow for overclocking in my PSU calculation. But I am unsure if you must choose specific RAM if you are overclocking your CPU or if 1.5-volt DDR3-1600MHz (PC-12800) modules with CAS 9 timings (i.e. your standard memory) can be used for all overclocking frequencies and voltages?

What about graphics cards/hard Disks? Are they affected? Probably not I am guessing?

Solution
If you are going to be overclocking, buy an unlocked CPU. Then nothing else changes except the multiplier and vcore. Memory will not be affected at all, and nothing else will be either.

Well most motherboards come with the ability to use XMP profiles which automatically configures the ram for you, and it is supposed to be tested stable as long as your ram is supported by the board properly. That is how people are running faster than 1600mhz ram. Honestly I will be upgrading to DDR-3 2400mhz soon, but I don't really expect to see a huge difference. I just want to go to 16gb instead of the 8gb I currently have. I am using all 4 slots to get my current 8gb, and afterwards I will use 2 slots to get 16gb instead.
