im currently building my pc on a budget theres a 4gb stick of memory by kingston that is selling on amazon used for 20 dollars less than the price of it new.. should i jump on it or is it to much of a risk
Probably OK. Lots of folks sell their old ram when they upgrade. If it is basic ram, chances are it was never OC'ed or abused. When you get it, run memtest on it alone in the first DIMM slot for a FULL pass. If it passes with no errors, it is good. If not, return it. http://www.memtest.org/#downiso
(download the .ISO file and use it to burn a bootable CD. Boot to that and let it run for a full pass)
