Buzzing noise in headset

Hello there,

I purchased a USB headset for my iMac 2011 because my old headset's mic wouldn't work with this computer, but whenever I connect to ventrilo (pretty much like skype) I hear this buzzing noise coming from the speakers, I'm sure it has to do with the microphone because if I disable the mic the noise stops. I think it's working like an antenna? This happens either in windows 7 or mac osx, and I'm sure its not a broken cable because I already switched twice this headset at the store.

It's probably picking up interference from things nearby, many of the lower-end headsets have poor RFI shielding.

But why is it only doing it when the microphone is trying to get sounds (like ventrilo, video call, etc)? Is there anything I can do about it?

Those are the only periods when the microphone is activated. It could also be that the microphone's circuitry is noisy since it has an AD/DA converter somewhere along the cord. I don't think there's really a whole lot you can do about it, other than trying a different brand.
