Buzzing noise on monitor then goes blank

Hi, a while back I bought my friend's dad's monitor but the payment never went through. Then a few months back something happened and when i tried to turn it on it would turn on for about 30s with a loud buzzing noise and blurry picture then it would just shut off. Now they owe us money and want to take the money I owe for the monitor out of it but I would rather just give it back fixed since i have a new monitor. Any ideas on how to fix this.. it is a ViewSonic VX1940w

There have been problems with some models of Viewsonic monitors -- two I had needed capacitors replacing on the power supply board. That may be why model you have has failed. Google Viewsonic problems it and print out the results -- like this:
