Hi,

I have an MSI Apache GE72 that I just bought. Since I turned it on for the first time, it will make a series of consistent, scratchy, buzzing/beeping noises. This will happen about every 2 minutes, and lasts for about 30 seconds. I have isolated where it is coming from and it seems to be the hard drive (it is a Toshiba THNSNJ128G8NY ). Is this a sign of a bad hard drive, or is it normal? Please help.

Welcome to the community, Spxnzon!

This seems pretty unfortunate! 🙁 Your HDD is most probably physically damaged and that's why it's making such unpleasant noises. I'd advise you to backup your data from it somewhere else ASAP! You should not be worried about the SSD making noises as it doesn't have any moving parts in it, unlike the mechanical hard drive which is most probably the source of your issue. Since the laptop is rather new, I'd advise you to get in touch with the manufacturer's customer support and send an RMA request to them. They should be able to provide you with a repair/replacement. If you try tampering with the hardware by yourself, you'd void the warranty, so be careful.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
