I recently bought a new ASUS VG248QE monitor and started hearing a faint buzzing sound coming from the top area of the monitor whenever i was in a game or had graphical movement on the screen basically. I was going to replace the monitor but I plugged the DVI and audio cord into a different model 60hz ASUS monitor and the same problem is present.

How do I figure out what exactly is creating this noise? This pc has a i3-2120 and AMD hd 7770. I never heard the buzz from the older 60hz monitor because it doesn't happen with HDMI.

Your monitor has included speakers.
I suspect this is where the noise is coming from.
Are you using them?
Or, are you using a discrete speaker setup?

HDMI combines video and audio into one cable.
I might think that possibly your audio cable is poor or unshielded.

I may just have to use speakers plugged directly into my pc or headphones into the pc, the static/buzz is only present with the audio plug going from pc to monitor.
