The HP 7660 thru 7690 printers tout a special cartridge for printing BW.
Anybody have comments?

I have, and am very happy with, my Canon i960. The 7660 only costs about $100
online. Worth it for a second BW printer?

TIA,

John

Hi,
I'm lookin' for an HP printer and I have found an interesting review.
The very reliable french magazine Reponses Photo says that the b/w quality
of these printers is great. Black and two greys are in the #59 cartridge.
But the color performance is not so special.
7660 has only 6 color inks, but 7960 has 8.
7960 uses the #59 cartridge also in the color printing process (Photoret Pro
system), and allows more than 73 milions of colors. But the quality of color
prints is disappointing. Please note this is not my opinion!!!
7660 probably uses the #59 cartridge only in the b/w process (Photoret IV),
with good results.
You could also buy the 7760, with a color display. I'll buy this one.
Important: the #59 cartridge is an optional with 7660, so I think it is not
in the package.

Bye,
Roberto

Perhaps our HP man in this group (or others) could comment on the B/W
comparison with the newer HP 8450.
I'm looking for the 'ultimate' letter (A4) B/W printer and will stick to the
1290 for colour.
Luminous Landscape site and Photo Techniques (Ctein) praise the HP 7960/7760
also for B/W specifically.
