Bypassing Router Based VPN for specific website and VPN Leak

I am pretty new to the VPN world and wanted to secure my home network a bit. I am using a VPN service provider and have an ASUS router with Merlin firmware installed. I have installed the VPN client on the router using OpenVPN and have a successful connection with no DNS leaks.

The problem is that I am an Amazon customer and of course they are blocking VPN's left and right. I have had the VPN provider's tech support try and help me but to no avail. I am not trying to bootleg anything, like I said I am an active customer of Amazon but I am a bit disappointed that I cannot access them to watch my prime movies, and I do live in the US.

My Merlin software does allow me to specify items on my network and allow them to bypass the VPN, I can also specify that they only bypass the VPN for a specific website if I want. However if I do this it shows up that I have a VPN leak.

I don't know anything in depth about a VPN leak but would like to maintain my privacy and security. If I were to allow my ROKU to bypass the VPN only when connecting to Amazon, what are the drawbacks and dangers etc. This is the only way I can see to do this other than turning the VPN off when I want to watch a Prime movie and the wife will not go for that since she is not too tech savvy.

thank you
tim

Thanks for the response, that is what I did. I selected policy based routing and routed all thru the vpn, then i selected my roku and routed it to the WAN that is how I get the leak and have no idea if that is good, bad or done properly. I did ask over there and didn't get an answer.
