C Drive 'Free Space"

Hi guys,

This is my first time on this site so I'm not sure if this is in the right section. I've noticed for a very long time that my C drive's 'free space' (My computer dialogue) seems to be inaccurate. Even when I don't download or install anything, the value decreases. When I do download a file, the 'free space' is exaggerated by a lot. I compared this 'free space' value with that of Spacesniffer's value and notice a huge difference of 150 GB. I also periodically check my C drive to see what I've downloaded and sum up the value and it's what Spacesniffer provides.

So does anyone know what the problem is? In addition to it being an OCD peeve, it's irritating because many times in the past, I have gotten close to 0GB free space (according to the My Computer calculation) when in actual fact, I should have well over 100 GB remaining.

Solution
Make sure you're not confusing your computer warning about being out of memory space (RAM) and hard drive space. If you were truly that low on hard drive space, your system would be extremely slow running.

Have you done a disk cleanup? windows is always storing temp files. Also system recovery files which you can't see can be deleted. Right click on Computer and then properties. The click on System Protection Click on your C Drive and then Configure and then hit the delete button.

Also how much RAM do you have? sometimes the PC will allocate what it needs when it needs it for the page file.

Yes I regularly run CCleaner to clean my temporary files/registries and whatnot. Ok I will try deleting the system recovery files.

I only have 4GB ram and yes, it always maxes out when I run multiple programs (or just one intensive one).

EDIT: Well that seems to have 'fixed' the problem. Thanks for that.
