C.P.R. (CPU Parameter Recall)?

can this be performed at any time

i forgot to do it after updating bios.
can i do it now? or do i have to do it right after installation only?

ie do i have to redo whole bios update again then do a CPR

After updating BIOS, it is advised to do a "CLEAR CMOS", not C.P.R. If you are not specifically requested to do so by the update routine (program), you may not CLEAR CMOS.

C.P.R. is something different according to my Asus manual.

If you overclock badly such that you computer is not able to boot, then C.P.R. must be used. For this to happen, shut down your computer and reboot. No need to bother with CLEAR CMOS procedure.

ok.. when i updated bios it never said to. i did go in and use F5 to reset to factor defaults. Is that same thing?

You set everything to default which is what is requested. Clear CMOS is the same but different. You remove the battery for 10 minutes or so and place back in (this with the PSU unplugged). It will clear everything and reset to default. It is more of a "full" reset than the F5 reset.

which do you suggest? im no overclocker.. i dont like even messing with bios. i dont even like going in to clean the inside of the machine for fear of doing something wrong lol

You are fine with the F5. The main thing when doing BIOS update is to have the system at "default" when updating

ok cool.. i f5'd it before installing bios.

seems to be running ok.. actually a lil faster on boot up

just curious so i can learn something more. if you do go ahead and clear the cmos.. does that set everything on your system to default or does that clear everything out..

ie do you hae to go back and put in the time, the voltage settings and all that stuff that somebody like me should not be messing with lol


Finally, i do have one more question. after doing all of this, on boot up I get a message stating that

"The fan speed is too low or is failing"

Never got that before... the chassis has 4 fans, there is the Asus optional fan in there, and a Thermaltake V1.

a. which fan is that referring to? the V1?

b. is it something i should worry about? or was possibly the fan speed warning setting turned off before i reset to default? I do notice that the V1 fan is never spinning (i dont think it was spinning before i reset). the cores all appear around 45 degrees when its been running awhile, one sensor at 53.. both gpus at 55 and 61 degrees tops

Btw Tecmo Bowl was the greatest football game of all time. I even liked Super Tecmo Bowl. Much better than Madden

Clearing the CMOS sets everything to default related to the motherboard.

I would look at your BIOS to see how they match up spec wise (MHz, Timings & Voltage) to your RAM specs. I would look to adjust if 1) they don't match and 2) you feel you are able to do so.

On the Fan Warning:

1) It is referring to your CPU fan V1

2) Yes, this is something you should be worried about since you said the fan doesn't spin. It should be spinning to provide better cooling, which is why your temps are high. I would first go into your BIOS and adjust your CPU fan to manual and set it to 50%. If it doesn't start to spin, it is time to look for a new HSF 🙁 (refer to your manual on how to adjust).

I agree... Tecmo Bowl was the best ever!! Without it, there would be no Madden IMO!! I played it till it's death on the Playstation 🙁

Check your fan profiles in BIOS. They may be set to not operate until a predetermined temperature is reached. i.e. Silent, Standard, Turbo or Full, etc.

is that the section where it has settings of

"Otimal, Performance, (something else)"

i noticed that the fan control is set to disabled.. maybe thats whats up.

Did notice it said one fan at 4000 rpm!

Also sounds like a fan from a vid card is making noise
