I have a old Windows Vista computer that is connected to a DIR-655 router via cable. It can access the local network and the router, but it is not being routed to internet. Other computers in the network has no problem with internet connection.

Solution
Try this...

Using a fixed IP, change your DNS servers to those used by Google (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).

For example:

IP Address: 192.168.1.99 (make sure the address is outside the block of addresses assigned to your router's DHCP server)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1 (assuming your router uses this standard address)
Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8
Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4

Also, verify in your router than you don't have any MAC address related access controls that would restrict the system in question as well.
It is not a DNS problem, it gets DNS resolution from the router. From the computer I can ping the internal and external IP of the router, but not the standard gateway of the router (my cable modem). From the system check page of the web interface of the router I get ping responses from the cable modem gateway. The computer is set up for DHCP and it gets all settings from the router.
