Cable for CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives?

I am wondering if there are any issues with using an ATA 100 ribbon cable for a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM? If I understand correctly they will work with 40 wire cables fine. Though I think they are also supposed to work with 80 wire cables fine as well? Please let me know...

It should work fine; the cables are backward-compatible.
