Hi
I had the problem of battery not charging when it had cable plugged in. It didn't power the laptop if I took the battery out. Came here, tried the take the battery and press start button for 30 secs, worked great!
But now it is happening again.

What could be the root cause of this?

Is it worth fixing it or it will cost as much as a new laptop?
Thanks

can you please send me your laptop details.

There are another two options you can try at home:

1) In the Control Panel, open the Device Manager. Under "Batteries" you should see three items, one for the battery, another for the charger, and a third listed as "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery". Open each item, which will bring up a Properties window. Under the "Driver" tab, you'll see a button labeled "Update Driver." Go through the driver update process for all three. Once the drivers are all up to date, reboot the laptop and plug it in again. If this doesn't resolve the problem, uninstall "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" completely and reboot.

Try this few staps first.

1) Remove battery from laptop, connect charger and then try to start your laptop. If laptop starts it means problem is in your laptop's battery.
2) There could be a problem of loose connection between your power cord and motherboard power connector. This problem may cost you several dollars.

Hi

Thank you for your reply.

I have removed the battery, plugged in the charger and it didn't turn on, even directly connected to the AC.

Then I did the disconnect everything thing and pressed the start button and it worked.

Two weeks later, its starting to say that the battery is not charging, again.... I haven't tried to remove the battery and see if the computer works just with AC this time.

I have a baaaad feeling.

2) A non-charging battery can sometimes be caused by an overheating laptop. This problem is two-fold; with the system shutting down to prevent overheating a battery and causing a fire. Also, as the temperature rises, the battery sensor may misfire, telling the system that the battery is either fully charged or missing completely, causing the charging problems.
