Cable Selection for Ethernet wiring

I live in a duplex house with my grandparents/landlords next door, we share wireless signal since it makes no sense for both of us to have Internet when we are in good range of the other. This works out fine for everyone else and myself to a certain extent. I have some external USB TP-Link WiFi N receiver that works great for most things including gaming. I have ridiculously low ping due to us having Fibre, but the receiver loses connection to the server or my ping skyrockets when playing BF4. So I want to wire a Ethernet cable from their 2nd floor living room, to my 3rd floor bedroom, to lose this issue and get even better ping and my full 150/30Mbs speeds. Should I use Cat 5E or Cat 6? My guess is about 50' (15m) with no wet areas but cold in the winter. Or are there any other solutions I could consider? I am not looking to spend any more than $40 CAD for this setup and I'm not buying a better WiFi receiver.

If you are planning on running this on the OUTSIDE of the house then you need to get outdoor (UV resistant) rated cable. Indoor, then Cat5E is a little easier to work with because it isn't so tightly twisted. DO NOT BUY copper clad aluminum wire. Get a name brand if possible preferably Belden.

Okay, is flat cable fine for use too? Does the brand really matter? I'm not looking for gigabit speed just 150Mbs and my ping.

You didn't say if you were running inside or outside. If it is copper and appropriately rated and from a reputable brand then it might be. To get 150Mbit, the only choice you have is gigabit. There is nothing between 100 and 1000. It will be cheaper to get good quality round Cat5E with a brand name.
