I pay $180.00 a month for cable. I am retired & live on SS. I need to cut this at least in half. So what do I need as far as equipment to do this. How reliable is it. How good will the reception be.

A lot depends on where you live. To get Digital TV channels, you will need an antenna, but you will only get the basic channels around you like the local networks.

Things like SlingTV work in conjection with a Roku box.

Google is coming our with YoutubeTV, like TV channels for $35 a month. Any PC or other devices could stream it.

Any options like the "watch 33,567,865 free channels with an android box for $99" are illegal and will either get you in trouble in the worst case, best case it works for a few months it will go down and the seller will disappear.

Don't know if I am doing this right, but here goes. Its a Samsung TV, about 6 to 8 years old, 42 inch. Friend replaced some diodes in it, been working just fine ever since. Think the manufacture installs weaker diodes that will fail in a few years so you will run out & get a new one. Anyway, I have Netflix, separate box. had for several years. think its a smart TV. has HDMI connectors. I currently have Comcast exfinity. its like every 6 months they raise the rate. Just fed up with this. I have to call & negotciate a lower rate. If my wife passes, I will shut cable off completely. I have internet with Comcast too.

you'll still need to keep the Comcast internet, which is likely $>70 month, to be able to use Netflix
I would try to call them: I have a deal for 2 years for $120/month for cable and internet (fast!) (2 rooms, HD DVR)

Other option is ATT/DirecTV> current special is $80/month for 145 channels and internet (Slow dsl). Check your snail mail, you almost surely have an ad from ATT!!:)
