YEY!!! I'm getting cable soon! My question is which one is the best? I can pay $30 for 250K, $60 for 300K and $90 for 512K! I'm not rich!!! I think $30 - 250K works the best. I have another important question! DO THEY GIVE YOU CABLE MODEM OR YOU SPEND $250 TO BUY IT??? If I'll have to spend $250 then F**K cable!!! I'll play with my 56K

With my service I pay monthly and there is an extra charge if you use there modem. If you buy you own it's like 5-10 bucks less a month. At least with my provider.
Try out the 250k service if thats not enough upgrade.
That just seems kind of odd to me the price diffrence for 50k.

You'll have to check with your ISP. Each ISP has its own terms.

I live in Las Vegas and for cable modem access it’s about $50 for 512kb and $30 for the TV but they give you a $10 discount if you get both for a grand total of $70. But this is the cool part, (or at least it was) you just pay for internet access ($50) then after they leave you spit it to your TV and get the cable TV for free! I was doing it for years but then I moved and they caught onto me and now all I get is like 14 channels (2 Spanish & 2 shopping  )But I know others that this still works for. We have cox cable out here (commonly referred as “cox suckers”). The service sucks, hold for hours, and cable goes down weekly. But there is no real alternative out here and 52kbs is a joke. I might give sprint (ADSL) a try so if anyone else has tried it let me know.

Thx & Cya

long live adsl.
oh yea and i live in cincinnati, it seems we have one of the best deals for cable/dsl that ive seen:
CABLE $40/month speeds up to 1mbps down/384up (becasue cable varies by the amount of neighborhood traffic)
ADSL $40/month ($20 if you get a package with the phone company which is what i do) for 768 down/384 up. speeds are consistent and in 1.5 years i have not had ANY problems whatsoever.
cincinnati has some very nice broadband alternatives, better than almost every other city it seems (visit http://www.dslreports.com and youll see what i mean.

We get 1.5mb down and 128k up, it costs 40$ a month, but 250k for 30 bucks sounds really good. When I had DSL(for about 3 months) they gave me 128k for 10 bucks, but they went out of business. If my cable provided less bandwith for less money, I would jump on it. Of course, if there are alot of people on one cable line, you could loose some speed, but if it gets too bad(down to phone line speeds), they can reroute the lines for greater speed.

There is no problem that an Optimator can't solve!

I am on Time Warner Road Runner in NC and I get pretty good download speeds except when the hardware in the neighborhood breaks or a server goes down. The tech support isn't all that great. All they tell you to do is shut off the modem or do a winipcfg. At least my father is a network administrator and computer engineer and knows how networks work and tells them they have a server down. :)
