Cables that supports 120hz

I was wondering what cable is better for my ASUS VG278H monitor so that i can maximize it to 120hz. My monitor only has DVI, HDMI, and VGA ports.

I have a GTX 1060 as well and it as 2x DVI-D, 1 HDMI port and 1 display port. I only have a VGA cable with an HDMI adaptor but it only limits it to 60hz.

Should I buy an adaptor VGA to DVI-D or VGA to Displayport adaptor?f

Follow-up question, does adaptors support 120hz or it limits it to 60hz?

Why do you want to use an adapter at all? Just get a DVI-D dual link cable, it will support 1080p 120hz.
