Call of Duty 4 Multiplayer crashes on startup

When I start Call of Duty 4 on multiplayer, it crashes on startup. It has worked before. However, singleplayer works.

I have tried multiple things:
- Reinstalling the game
- Verifying the game cache
- Plugging in something to the microphone jack(I already have something plugged in!)
- Plugging in a mic(I already have one plugged in!)
- Reinstalling audio drivers

My audio drivers(VIA Vinyl V2021, integrated sound) do not have Stereo Mix.

I have looked around, tried, and nothing works. Are there any solutions?

I'd try following these steps. If you've done a clean install of the game it's most likely a driver issue.

I figured I would post an update in case you still haven't found a fix, or for other people having the problem. Today I was having the same problem. Oddly enough the fix was to plug in my mic'd headset into the 3.5mm headset and microphone port on the front of my case. I read that you can plug any 3.5 into just the mic port. Hope this helps you if you still haven't found the fix.

Just re-read your post, and realize that you already tried this. Maybe if you unplugged the mic/headphone case headers from your motherboard will fix it.
