The camera and fingerprint scanner of my one year old elitebook 830 g6 stopped working suddenly. The camera app is showing <NoCamerasAreAttached> error. Both the devices are missing in the device manager. There are no entries named Biometric Devices or Camera. I have checked with HWinfo too, they are not listed in the USB ports. I installed and checked version of windows 1909, 20H2 and 21H1 as well as all the available fixes described online that I could find.

The fingerprint scanner has not been working for sometime and the camera issue I noticed after the laptop received a firmware update (though I am not completely sure if it occurred before the update).

Look in Reliability History for any entries related to the camera and/or fingerprint scanner.

Look in Update History for any update problems that may have occurred.

Run the built in Windows troubleshooters. The troubleshooters may find and fix something.

Run "sfc /scannow" and "dism" to fix possible problems.

Another way to "look":

Open Powershell as Admin and enter the following cmdlet.

Get-PNPDevice

(Just copy and paste the above cmdlet after the PS > prompt. Or just type in directly.

The result should be a long list of installed devices.

Do you seen the camera and/or fingerprint scanner listed in the column "FriendlyName"?

If not found then I expect that the laptop needs servicing/repairs.
