Hello, I have a Lorex LNR280 and a Camera Model LNB3163-C. Both support POE, but the camera does not light up when connected to a POE port on the recorder. I also tried to connect the camera to a switch with POE ports. Shouldn't I be able to get the camera to activate by these methods?

This spec sheet -- https://www.lorextechnology.com/downloads/ip-cameras/LNB3163/LNB3163B_Specs_R4.pdf
says the camera is POE, but 12VDC. That is a non-standard voltage.
This is the list of cameras that Lorex says is compatible with that recorder -- https://www.lorextechnology.com/compatibility?dt=NVR&dp=40
Your 3163 is not on the list.
Hopefully you didn't fry that camera with incorrect voltage. 12VDC would be wired like a passive 24VDC camera but with different voltage.

Thanks kanewolf, I appreciate the detail of your response. I'm very new to security systems and sometimes my ignorance is astounding.

I have found that the two bullet cameras compatible with my recorder are difficult to find (LNB2150 and LNB2152} Do you know if any other brands of cameras are compatible with my Lorex recorder LNR280?

Thanks, Jim

This post -- https://www.cctvforum.com/topic/47091-lorex-lnr280-to-hikvision-frimware/ says that you might be able to use Hikvision firmware.
I don't have that hardware so I don't have first hand experience.

Thanks kanewolf, that looks like a good solution for me, but I'm having difficulty figuring out how to install the Hikvision firmware into the Lorex LNR280. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks, Jim

Sorry, without first hand experience, I can't say. Obviously you are attempting to do something that is not supported. Failure is always an option in those cases.
