[SOLVED] Can’t get new ssd drive to show proper storage size

Trying to upgrade 250 ssd drive which is C drive on laptop to 1 T ssd drive.
Using Macrium I was able to clone disk. the laptop boots and everything seems to work fine.
when I check the hard drive it is listing it with same storage as old drive, I’m guessing because I cloned it?
What is the proper way to tranfer OS onto New Drive so that utilizes the entire drive ? Thanks Owen

That can happen going from a smaller drive to larger.
Macrium has a function to manage and that before you click the Go button.

If the system would still work from the old drive, redo the clone operation.

Specific steps for a successful clone operation:
-----------------------------
Verify the actual used space on the current drive is significantly below the size of the new SSD
Download and install Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration, if a Samsung SSD)
If you are cloning from a SATA drive to PCIe/NVMe, install the relevant driver for this new NVMe/PCIe drive.
Power off
Disconnect ALL drives except the current C and the new SSD
Power up
Run the Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration)
Select ALL the partitions on the existing C drive

If you are going from a smaller drive to a larger, by default, the target partition size will be the same as the Source. You probably don't want that
You can manipulate the size of the partitions on the target (larger)drive
Click on "Cloned Partition Properties", and you can specifiy the resulting partition size, to even include the whole thing

Click the 'Clone' button
Wait until it is done
When it finishes, power off
Disconnect ALL drives except for the new SSD
This is to allow the system to try to boot from ONLY the SSD
Swap the SATA cables around so that the new drive is connected to the same SATA port as the old drive
Power up, and verify the BIOS boot order
If good, continue the power up

It should boot from the new drive, just like the old drive.
Maybe reboot a time or two, just to make sure.

If it works, and it should, all is good.

Later, reconnect the old drive and wipe all partitions on it.
This will probably require the commandline diskpart function, and the clean command.

Ask questions if anything is unclear.

If you create a Macrium RescueUSB (and you should), I believe that functionality is in there.

Probably just need to extend OS partition.

…so i had already started to format new disk using disk mgmt. having issue trying to format entire disk. i can select partitions that were created when i ran clone and format, but cant find a way to erase entire disk without partitions.

The commandline function diskpart and the clean command will wipe the entire drive.

I am having the same issue. So I wanted to piggyback on this thread. The drive is already cloned and installed, the old drive is wiped. I did not notice the error until complete, and missed the option above about preserving the size.

Is there a way to restore the proper storage and label? I cannot clean the disk part, because it is the drive the OS is on and Clean is not allowed. Any other ways to resolve the issue, or do I have to copy the copy and start over somehow?
