So I got a used pc to fix up for my wife. It’s some AM3 cpu with a 1060, ddr3 ram, and an old Toshiba hdd. I don’t know the password to the pc, so resetting isn’t an option. I bought a cheap PNY SSD to just plug in and run as a new system with my WIN 10 key. But I get a disc read error. I see that the boot priority is on the ssd but it’s set as slave instead of master. I don’t know how to change it to master. I’ve done a bios reset to defaults. I’m just stuck, any advice?

There hasn't been "master" "slave" drives in about 15 years.
