Ideally, RAM should come from a 4 sticks matched set in order to work, not simply be a pair of sticks of same type...
Most motherboards operate at reduced RAM clock speeds/and or more relaxed timings when operating with 4 sticks compared to 2...
Last but not least, sometimes a RAM slot (or pair) will refuse to work due to a bent pin on CPU or in MB socket, depending on which CPU/MB you have...
