I bought 1( 1*16 gb) module g.skill ripjaws v cl 16 ram. But i want the dual channel config. Now, if buy a same stick and put it in as dual channel config, will it work as dual channel?
i have a ryzen 5 3600x with a tomahawk maxIt takes 2 sticks to run dual channel mode.
Best to buy the ram capacity you need up front.
Ram not from the same kit may have issues.
It may not work at all, or, it may work with intermittent issues.
Or, it may work perfectly well.
What is your processor?
Intel is a bit more tolerant of ram issues than ryzen.
What is your plan B if a second stick does not work?
If all you need is 16gb, running in single channel mode is not awful unless you are using integrated graphics.
i already have a 16 gb kit of 1 module . so what will be the thing to do if i want to have dual channel in my pc?probably. mixing ram not in a kit sometime don't work right
Ok. Thank you.If 16gb will suffice, buy a supported 2 x 8gb ram kit with the same speed, voltage and timings as your current 16gb stick.
That will give you guaranteed dual channel operation.
Then, try installing your current 16gb stick.
If it works, stress test with memtest86.
The result will be 32gb in dual channel mode.
If the old stick does not work properly, sell it.
