[SOLVED] Can 550w PSU handle GTX 1070 ti and R5 3600?

Hi,

I am currently looking to upgrade my pc but retain my GPU (GTX 1070 ti). I have tried to research regarding the subject matter but it seems opinions revolve on 550w being enough and 650w for OC headroom. Here are my planned specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor
CPU cooler: CRYORIG H7 49 CFM CPU Cooler
MB: MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC ATX AM4 Motherboard (Best reviewed for OC R5 3600)
Memory : 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory (Brand not yet determined and depends on availability)
Storage: Seagate BarraCuda 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ( retained from old system. Less than 1 yr)
Storage 2: Samsung 860 Evo 500 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (New for game storage)
Storage 3: ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 512 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive (New for OS & Work programs storage)
Video card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 Ti 8 GB Video Card (retained from old system. Less than 2 yrs old)
Case: ATX (Not yet determined and depends on availability)

I do plan to OC my cpu and my gpu once I get my system upgrade though I also know that both are not capable of being OC'd too far from its original specs. My current line up for PSU are:

*Seasonic M12II 620w Bronze (Heard/Read that design isnt updated)
*Seasonic Focus Plus 550w Gold
*Seasonic Focus Plus 650w Gold
*Corsair CXm v2 650w Bronze

OLD PSU: Seasonic S12II 620w Bronze

I honestly prefer maximizing my budget and not splurging on excess/unnecessary headroom but I want to at least upgrade from non to semi/modular PSU for cleanliness of system. Also, feel free to criticize my current specs. My budget is flexible as I am willing to delay my system as long as it can last me for around 3-4 yrs.

I was running gtx 1070 ti with ryzen 5 1400 at 3.7Ghz 1.35v with a corsair cx550 psu without any problem. Now i upgraded to ryzen 5 3600 too. There is no way you will want to overclock this cpu anyway this cpu boost to the max speed anyway and you will experience many problems maybe to go 100mhz higher (4.3 Ghz) with the current bios. Seasonic Focus Plus 550w or 650w are both good options for this build but i would go with the 650 one for maybe a future upgrade.

^Why update a good thing???? Still better than the corsair. Any seasonic is good, they don't make bad PSU's. Just spend the extra few $$ on the 650/620w and be done with it. Corsair CX series are low tier,...avoid.

Alright. I might as well spend the small premium on the Seasonic Focus Plus 650 watts and think of it as an investment for 10 years unless something happens. This was what I thought of for the S12II 620w but then I got a bit OC everytime I open my case. Thank you very much. Knowing someone else ran it on 550w with no problems gives me a choice but I will be getting the SFP 650w as you suggest.

Yeah. This is also why I always tell clerks I only get Seasonic PSU when I visit a store. Just that the few research i did made me question it. I will get the SFP 650w and think of it as an investment which could last me for 7-10 years hopefully.
