Can a 280W PSU 80+ certified run a 750Ti and i5 3470.

I have a 750Ti, an i5 3470, a 500GB hard drive, 8GB of DDR3 1333MHz RAM. I really need to know if my 280W 80+ certified PSU can handle all of that.

I'm running a GTX 745 and a Haswell i7 off of it. Should be fine with a 750 Ti.

Actually looking at HardOCP's review of the 750Ti here they have an overclocked 750Ti, a 4.6Ghz I7-3770K, and they measured 235W from the wall under full load overclocked. Since that's measured from the wall , and considering this PSU being used, I can assume 88% efficiency or 206W of power output. And that's with an older Intel CPU very heavily overclocked. A modern day system more realistically should be lower down, like at 175W or less under load with a 750Ti.

Hey turkey scratch, I've actually underclocked my i5 3470 to 2.9GHz instead of the stock 3.2GHz. Do you think that'll help a decent amount? I just want to be fairly safe with the 280W power supply, though I think it's a pretty decent one.

Could you post an image of the power supply label?

Yours is probably an i7 4790 right? Ok, anyways, thanks for the confirmation. Your GPU uses only 5 watts less than my 750Ti and your processor uses 84W while my i5 3470 uses somewhere around 65w (I underclocked it to 2.9GHz). Thanks for the help.

Hey guys, my apologies for reviving this fairly old thread, but I found an insane deal on a GTX 950. $20 for it, I just can't pass up on it, it's a great deal, and I know that 950 is quite a bit better than the 750Ti that I currently have. Now, this 950 requires one 6 pin connector and it uses a bit more power than the 750Ti. I simply want to know if my PSU can handle it well enough. The PSU is handling the 750Ti flawlessly, so I suspect it will run the 950 pretty well, but I wanted to ask you guys before I buy the 950.

No. You want proof? PM me.

The Lite-On PUS does not have 6-pin VGA header so no.

Not 250 but it can definitely run on a 280 W system. My pc has similar configuration as you have except for the 250 W Dell psu, but i chose a GT 730 over the 750 Ti to avoid running into power issues.. Although 300 is the minimum requirement for the GT 730 gpu but it runs just fine on my 250W system, and has never given me a problem (bsod, restarts, etc). So i believe 280 is enough to handle that 65 W gpu (Gtx 750 Ti). Or you can simply remove the DVD drive from your pc to save 20-25 W.

Actually no. The 950 OP is considering requires a 6-pin connector which the Lite-On proprietary lack.

I was under the assumption that LiteOn PSUs were decent. Anyways, will I really need the pin converter? And why?

They aren't decent, but they're passable for something unintensive like a Quadro K620. And your motherboard uses a 14-pin instead of a 24-pin motherboard plug.
