Can a 2k monitor be set at 1080p

I wanted to buy the ASUS ROG SWIFT,
which is 2k
Even though I am building a beast of a computer for gaming,

I wanted to play certain demanding games like crisis 3, and witcher 3
on 1080p, as to get really good fps.
now as this is my first time doing this, I don't know a lot,
but is there a way that I can decrease my screen resolution from 2k, to 1080p,
while playing certain games???

Yes monitors are backwards-scaling. All you have to do is change the resolution in-game or change your desktop resolution. You would find the resolution under 1920x1080.

Just set whatever resolution you want to play within the games.

I'd suggest lowering settings vs lower res. It blurs scaling.
