I have a Phenom II x4 955 Black edition. I have upgraded the heck out of. I overclocked the heck out of the CPU to w/I precise benckmarks. I think a 3.4 GHz cpu might be another route to take here. I can purchase a 3.4GHz cpu that installs in a Phenom 965 black edition for a very good price. I am pretty sure since they are both 938 pin CPUs and fit in AM3 sockets @ 941 pin Max. They shoud be interchangeable. Am I correct here? Thank you for your reply folks. WILL it WORK?

If you oveclocked the heck out of it, you should be running close to 3.7 - 3.8GHz.
They're both Deneb cores so are functionally identically, just one is factory locked 200Mhz lower.
a 965 isn't likely to get you anything.

When you overclock for gaming, you should focus on memory speed over CPU speed.
