Can a damaged display damage a motherboard?

So I bought a new motherboard for my laptop and hooked it up and everything but I discovered it wouldn't show anything on any display. I found out that the video chipset is blown apparently, so I'm sending it back for a replacement. The thing is at one point, I took that laptops internal display (out of curiousity...) and plugged it into another laptops motherboard to see if it would work. I ended up blowing the port on that other motherboard, and burnt out the webcam that the display had. I've now replaced the webcam so I don't have to worry about that, but I have no idea if the display is any good. If it is damaged, could that have burnt out the video chip on the motherboard I just got? I just need to know, that way I don't end up blowing the replacement motherboard... Lol Thanks for any help or answers! :D
