My PC is hook up to my router and I am wondering if the cable can affect the speed. My motherboard is Asus z170-A and my current Ethernet cable says CAT 5E

Solution
An ethernet cable usually HELPS rather than hinder as you seems to suggest. Unless you hooked it up wrong and looping a switch connection, or having ethernet and WIFI at the same time which may confuse the PC, and then it's scary as I watch those youtube videos that talk about CHEAP CCA (Copper Clad Aluminum) cables, one of those, when the guy peeled off the jacket, the twisted pairs ARE NOT EVEN TWISTED, a critical feature that gives CAT cables their performance.
Agree with Dunlop0078.

However, I recently swapped out a working Cat5e cable to test another Cat 5e that would not work at another location.

The cable not only worked but markedly improved network performance as well.

Left the cable in place.....
