I want buy a new 4tb external hardrive for my desktop. I already have another 4tb external already connected, so if I add a new one both 4tb external hard Drives will be 1 operating inch away from each other. My concern is about these hardrives vibrating next to each other. I have heard that even sound vibrations can damage a hardrive. Can the vibrations from one external hardrive damage the other one if they are just an inch apart on the same flat surface ?

Does anyone have experience with using external hardrives this way ?

Unless you are working in a high security facility (I wager not because you will be asking your IT security guy instead of us), if this was true nobody build multi-HD rigs. Surely you have seen data center HD banks, hundred of them in one rack. If you are really concerned buy the RED type (clustered NAS) or YELLOW (data center) drives.
